A New Hope:- Establishing a STEM Lab in JC Nunnery
A new building will be constructed within the nunnery compound to establish the Jangchub Choeling Library and Learning Centre, which will serve as the academic wing of the nunnery. The center will offer classes on Buddhist philosophy, science, mathematics, English, and Chinese language. The construction of the library and learning center will start in Jan 2024 and will be completed by Dec 2024. The center will be equipped with the following facilities:
a) Library – A library with a seating capacity of 50 and new books on science, mathematics, English, Chinese, and philosophy (ancient Indian scriptures, texts from all sects of Buddhism, Bon, and Buddhist philosophy) will be procured.
b) Science laboratory – The science laboratory will be used for regular science classes to have hands-on experiences. It will also be used for the intensive workshop on Science and Buddhism.
c) Conference hall – The conference hall will be equipped with a projector and a sound system. It will be used for intensive workshops, lectures, and film screenings.
d) Classrooms – The center will have a total of 13 classrooms where it is divided into two sections. One section will have 6 classrooms designated for Buddhist philosophy classes where there would be a traditional floor seating style. The other section will have 7 classrooms designated for other subjects including science, mathematics, English, and Chinese language with modern-style desks and chairs.
e) Discussion rooms – There will be 6 discussion rooms which will be used for exclusive discussions and debates.
Computer Lab – The computer lab will be used for teaching computers to nuns and will give hands-on experience in learning the technology.
